What is a BYOD program?

A BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Program is a parent funded program in which participating students own and use their own device for use at school and home, enabling a more student-centered, experience-rich education relevant to the 21st Century. Students develop skills, work habits, attitudes and expertise that will prepare them for success and help them to become efficient and effective life-long learners.

Why a BYOD program?

Participation in this BYOD Program provides students with their own device to which they have permanent access. Its benefits include:

  • Increased access to information and improved research and analytical skills.
  • Students directing their own learning and more readily engaging in problem-solving, critical thinking and practising skills at their point of need.
  • More time spent engaging in collaborative work and participating in project-based instruction
  • Using device has been shown to lead to more student writing and writing of a higher quality. Students also spend more time doing home work when they have access to their own computer.
  • Increased student participation and engagement and achievement enabling students to connect with experts and other learners anywhere in the world.
  • The provision of an enhanced learning environment fostering a learning style that promotes student self-reflection, goal setting and greater feedback between teacher and student.
  • Strengthened connection between home and school encouraging shared learning and strengthening three way communication between teacher, parent and student while also giving opportunities for students to enhance their academic development beyond the classroom.
