The LEAF Program is a two-year Senior School Engagement Program for students in Year 11 and 12.
The purpose of this program is to provide a flexible learning environment for students, towards achieving their Western Australian Certificate of Education. LEAF allows the students to focus on their strengths, their interests and their aspirations, supported by a small but highly committed team of teachers and Education Assistants.
This program is very successful and strongly engages with community agencies, business and industry to provide a range of interesting opportunities for students geared to develop their social-emotional, inter-personal and employability skills. This includes the development of a ‘post school plan’, which focuses on engagement in further training, gaining an apprenticeship or traineeship or transition to full-time employment.
The LEAF Program draws the best qualities from each student
Students study a range of General Courses as well as Endorsed Programs which are delivered in a friendly, fun and supportive learning environment. With a strong focus on pastoral care and individual responsibility for improvement, the LEAF Program prides itself on drawing the very best qualities from each student and providing them with unique and interesting opportunities and experiences. The program offers the following:
- Certificate II Hospitality
- General English
- General Mathematics Essentials
- General Outdoor Education
- Students can choose a course from the mainstream Year 11 & 12 timetable
- Endorsed Programs in Workplace Learning; Keys for Life Pre-Driver Education; Recreational Skippers Ticket and Expedition SEATREK.
Potential Year 10 candidates for the LEAF Program are identified by Lynwood SHS staff through the assessment of individual student academic, behaviour and attendance data over the previous three years. Students may self-nominate and will be subject to the same selection process.
Self-nominating or being assessed by the school does not guarantee selection into the program.
The selection process requires students to participate in a number of trial days, and parents / guardians and students to participate in a number of meetings with LEAF staff to develop Individual Education Plans.
The final decision on whether a student is accepted for enrolment into the LEAF Program rests with the school administration.
