At Lynwood Senior High School, the Health and Physical Education Learning area is divided into two integrated strands, supporting the WA Curriculum:

  1. Movement and physical activity (Moving our Body)
  2. Personal, social and community health (Being Healthy, Safe and Active)

Courses focus on the physical, emotional and social dimensions of health for the individual, which encourage the participation in regular physical activity and support the maintenance of a healthy lifestyle.

Movement and Physical Activity

All Physical Education – Movement and Physical Activity courses provide an excellent foundation for the Physical Education Studies (ATAR – University bound students) and Certificate II Sport and Recreation in Senior School.

Elite Skills Academy Year 8-10

Courses within the Elite Skills Academy are designed so students can attain advanced skills in Physical Education, generally and specifically.  This may include studying a selected sport in depth, such as Netball or AFL Football.  Programs will cover the skills, techniques and attitudes for high-level participation.

Outdoor Pursuits & Education Year 9-12

Outdoor Education Courses prepare students to experience the outdoor environment with safety, responsibility and cooperation whilst caring for the environment, fellow students and themselves.

Goal setting and decision making are paramount through activities that include:

  • Bush Skills / Hiking / Trekking / Campcraft
  • Kayaking / Canoeing
  • Mountain Biking
  • Navigating and Orienteering
  • Ropes / Climbing / Abseiling
  • Small Boat Handling and Sailing

Personal, Social and Community Health (Health Education)

The personal, social and community health strand will develop student’s knowledge, understanding and skills to develop and promote a healthy, safe and active lifestyle. The course develops the skills for students to communicate and interact for health and wellbeing and to contribute to healthy and active communities. The key focus areas are:

Year 11 and 12

Year 7-10 courses enable students to gain knowledge, skills and understandings to progress to Year 11 and 12 courses in the Health and Physical Education learning area:

Year 7 – 12 Sports uniforms

All students are expected to wear the standard PE (or Soccer Academy) uniforms for all physical activity during the school day. This comprises of:

  • Yellow PE shirt
  • Blue school sports shorts
  • Appropriate, comfortable and safe footwear

Students must change into their PE uniform prior to the lesson and change out of the uniform once finished.

When swimming, students must bring their bathers, towel and sun protection.  Students are not allowed to enter the school following their lesson, in any wet clothing.
