The greatest gift we can give students — and humanity — is an understanding, appreciation, and ability to create art. A broad education in the arts gives students a better understanding of their world… We need students who are culturally literate as well as math and science literate.
The Media Studies Program at Lynwood Senior High School develops an informed and critical understanding of the nature of mass media, the techniques used, and the impact of these techniques.
Our aim is to increase students’ understanding and enjoyment of how the media work, how they produce meaning, how they are organised, and how they construct reality.
Our program provides students with the ability to create exciting educational and entertaining media productions.
In Years 9 and 10 students learn the skills, knowledge and techniques to construct a broad range of Media Productions. Students receive practical experiences in Photography, Film, Scriptwriting, Storyboarding, Creative Thinking, Advertising, Graphic Design, Soundscapes, Animation, Comic Strips and Cartooning.
Most productions encourage students to work effectively in a team, to be able to negotiate and compromise creative ideas, and to develop confidence in presentation skills.
With a developed understanding of the technical and symbolic codes of Media, students are able to communicate narratives and personal storytelling through selective visual, sound and text forms.
Certificate II – Creative Industries (Media)
The Certificate II in Creative Industries (Media) is a two-year course. Students aim to achieve specific industry qualifications including the nationally accredited CUA2015 Certificate Industries for TAFE entry.
Over the two years students complete four Media Productions. In Year 11 students complete an Advertising Campaign and a Film Documentary. In Year 12 students complete a short film (Drama) and an Investigative Journalist segment to be aired as part of a 30-minute Broadcast News.
On completion of the course all students will be successful in working effectively as a team member, scriptwriting, storyboarding, filming, creating sound tracks, editing film and sound, narrating, setting up lighting for a camera shoot, understanding typography and graphic design and being able to present their work confidently to an audience.
These skills are an asset to have in any industry.
